The Telangana government’s Mission Bhagiratha scheme has sought a grant of ₹31.23 crore to fund water supply works aimed at relieving the acute shortage in Singur, Sangareddy district.
The state’s flagship water supply programme, Mission Bhagiratha, has formally applied for an additional ₹31.23 crore to finance emergency infrastructure in Singur, a village in Sangareddy district that has been grappling with severe water scarcity. The funding request was submitted to the Telangana finance department as part of the scheme’s ongoing expansion.
Singur’s residents have faced dwindling groundwater levels and irregular pipe‑line deliveries for months, prompting local authorities to label the situation a crisis. Agricultural fields and households alike have reported insufficient water for irrigation and daily use, heightening public pressure on officials.
Mission Bhagiratha, launched in 2016, aims to provide safe drinking water to every household in the state through a network of pipelines, treatment plants and storage reservoirs. The proposed ₹31.23 crore will be used to augment existing pipelines, drill new borewells and install additional storage tanks to ensure a reliable supply to Singur.
State officials indicated that, once approved, the project could commence within the next quarter, with completion targeted by the end of the fiscal year. The move underscores the government’s commitment to addressing water‑related challenges in rapidly growing districts of Telangana.
