Millions to Join 11‑km Kawad Yatra at Kubereshwar Dham, Sehore on Aug 25

On August 25, devotees will walk 11 kilometres from the Sevan River to Kubereshwar Dham in Sehore, carrying holy water for Shiva’s ablution.
Sehore, Madhya Pradesh – A massive Kawad Yatra is set to commence on 25 August from the banks of the Sevan River to the revered Kubereshwar Dham. Pilgrims will trek an 11‑kilometre route on foot, each carrying a pot of river water destined for the ceremonial bathing of Lord Shiva.
Organisers anticipate that millions of devotees, popularly known as "Kawadiyas," will converge on the shrine, turning the event into one of the region’s largest religious gatherings this year. The pilgrimage underscores the traditional practice of fetching sacred water from a natural source and offering it at a temple.
The procession will begin at sunrise, with participants moving in organized groups to ensure safety and smooth flow along the designated path. Local authorities have deployed additional police and medical teams to manage crowds and address any emergencies during the trek.
Kubereshwar Dham, dedicated to Lord Shiva, draws worshippers from across Madhya Pradesh and neighboring states. The 2024 Kawad Yatra is expected to reinforce communal harmony and spiritual devotion as devotees fulfill the age‑old ritual of water offering.
The event concludes with a grand abhishek ceremony at the temple, where the collected water will be poured over the deity’s idol, marking the culmination of the pilgrimage.
