Microplastics Found in Every Fish from Yamuna River, Delhi Samples Heavily Contaminated

Scientists have detected microplastic particles in every fish species sampled from the Yamuna River, according to a recent study.
The research found that fish caught from the stretch of the river that runs through Delhi carried significantly higher levels of contamination than those from upstream areas in Haryana.
Microplastics were identified not only in the digestive tracts but also in the muscle tissues of the fish, suggesting that the particles are entering the aquatic food chain.
The findings highlight the urgent need to curb microplastic pollution from sources such as packaging, textiles and wastewater discharges that ultimately reach the river.
