The Ministry of Home Affairs has forwarded a proposal to review the cadre structure of Central Armed Police Forces officers to the Department of Personnel and Training. The proposal is expected to streamline postings and promotions within the forces.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has formally submitted a cadre review proposal for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) officers to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). The proposal aims to reassess and potentially restructure the posting and promotion framework within the CAPF, ensuring that career progression aligns with contemporary operational requirements.

Under the draft, the MHA intends to introduce clearer criteria for transfers, promotions, and training assignments, thereby enhancing efficiency and morale among officers. The DoPT is expected to evaluate the proposal and recommend necessary adjustments before it is implemented.

This move follows a broader push by the government to modernise defence and paramilitary structures. While the Home Secretary has already filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court regarding related matters, the current focus remains on the cadre review process.

Officials say that once DoPT approves the proposal, it will be forwarded to the Cabinet for final approval. The changes are expected to take effect in the next fiscal year, pending all approvals.
