MGNREGA workers in Ludhiana gathered to protest the central government's policies, demanding timely wage disbursement and full implementation of the scheme.
A sizable group of MGNREGA labourers assembled in a central area of Ludhiana, Punjab, to voice their dissatisfaction with the central government's handling of the employment guarantee scheme. The demonstrators carried placards and chanted slogans, highlighting perceived delays in wage payments and irregularities in work allocation.
The workers demanded that the government ensure prompt release of pending wages, improve transparency in job assignment, and fully honour the provisions of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. They also called for a review of the scheme's implementation mechanisms to prevent future lapses.
Local authorities have not yet issued an official response to the protest. Police presence was reported at the site to maintain order, and organizers indicated that they would continue to press for a meeting with relevant officials to discuss their grievances.
