The India Meteorological Department says most of Jammu & Kashmir will stay dry until the end of October, with rain and snowfall likely in early November.
New Delhi – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a seasonal outlook indicating that Jammu and Kashmir will experience predominantly dry conditions through October 31. The forecast is based on prevailing high‑pressure systems that are expected to suppress rainfall across the valley and surrounding hills.
According to the IMD, the dry spell is likely to be interrupted in the first week of November when a trough moving eastward could bring scattered showers and snowfall to higher altitudes. The department cautioned that the timing and intensity of the precipitation will depend on the strength of the approaching system.
Authorities in the region have been advised to monitor the situation closely, especially in mountainous districts where sudden snow can affect road connectivity and power supply. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official weather alerts.
The forecast does not rule out isolated rain events before the end of October, but overall precipitation is expected to remain below normal levels for the month.
The IMD will release further updates as the weather pattern evolves, and local disaster management agencies are on standby to respond to any adverse conditions.
