Mel Brooks, the legendary filmmaker, reportedly insisted on filming his scenes for the 1987 sci‑fi comedy Spaceballs before the rest of the cast, according to IGN India. The move aimed to streamline production and leverage his star power.
Mel Brooks, who directed and starred in the 1987 sci‑fi spoof Spaceballs, reportedly demanded that his scenes be shot before the rest of the cast, according to a report by IGN India.
The director explained that filming his parts first helped keep the production schedule tight and allowed the crew to work around his availability, which was often limited by other commitments.
By shooting his scenes early, Brooks was able to set the tone for the film’s comedic style and ensure that the key moments involving his character were captured without delays.
While it is not uncommon for high‑profile actors to have dedicated blocks of time on set, Brooks’ insistence was notable because it required the entire crew to adjust their usual workflow.
The approach ultimately contributed to a smoother production process and helped Spaceballs maintain its release timeline in 1987.
