Meghalaya's Khneng Embroidery Showcased on Air India Express Flights

Air India Express has introduced the traditional Khneng embroidery of Meghalaya on its aircraft interiors, marking the first time the tribal craft will be seen by passengers across the country. The airline has applied the intricate hand‑stitched motifs to seat covers and cabin blankets, turning each flight into a moving exhibition of the state's cultural heritage. Khneng, practiced mainly by the Garo community, is known for its vibrant geometric patterns stitched onto cotton fabric using bright threads. The partnership was forged with the Meghalaya Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation to promote indigenous artisans and create new market opportunities for their work. Officials say the visibility on a national carrier could boost demand for Khneng products and help preserve the craft for future generations.
