Meghalaya Unveils Rs 175.45 Crore Mission Golden Spice to Boost Spice Production

The Meghalaya government has announced a new scheme, Mission Golden Spice, allocating Rs 175.45 crore to support spice cultivation and enhance the state's agricultural output.
The state of Meghalaya has launched Mission Golden Spice, a Rs 175.45 crore initiative aimed at strengthening the spice sector. The scheme was unveiled by the government during a press briefing in the capital, with officials outlining plans to provide financial support to spice growers across the state.
Mission Golden Spice seeks to boost production of key spices such as black pepper, cardamom and ginger. By offering subsidies, improved irrigation facilities and market linkages, the government intends to raise both yield and quality, thereby increasing farmers’ incomes.
Funds will be disbursed through a combination of direct payments, credit guarantees and training programmes. The scheme also plans to set up processing units and export facilitation centres to help local producers reach national and international markets.
With the launch of this programme, Meghalaya aims to position itself as a major spice hub in Northeast India, creating jobs and fostering sustainable agricultural development over the next few years.
