Eight of the twelve MLAs from the BJP-allied United Democratic Party in Meghalaya are reportedly considering a move to the saffron party, which could bolster the BJP's strength in the state assembly.

The United Democratic Party (UDP), which is currently an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Meghalaya, is facing internal discord as a significant portion of its legislative members appear inclined to shift allegiance. Reports indicate that eight out of the twelve UDP MLAs are exploring the possibility of joining the BJP, a move that would increase the saffron party's tally in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

If the reported shift materializes, it would not only strengthen the BJP's position in the state but also raise questions about the future of the UDP-BJP alliance. Political observers note that such a development could alter the balance of power in the assembly and influence upcoming policy decisions.

So far, no official statement has been issued by either the UDP leadership or the BJP regarding the alleged talks. The situation remains fluid, and stakeholders are watching closely for any formal confirmation or denial from the concerned parties.
