The Meghalaya education minister confirmed that three additional polytechnic institutes will be established in the state in the near future.
Guwahati, Oct 8 (India Today NE) – The education minister of Meghalaya announced that the state government plans to open three new polytechnic colleges within the next few months. The initiative aims to expand technical education opportunities for youth, especially in rural and underserved areas. The upcoming institutions will be equipped with modern labs and industry‑linked curricula to enhance employability.
The minister highlighted that the polytechnics will focus on trades such as civil, electrical, and computer engineering, aligning with the state's skill development goals. Funding for the projects has been allocated under the state’s education budget, and construction is expected to begin shortly.
Stakeholders, including local industry bodies and community leaders, have welcomed the move, citing the potential to create a skilled workforce that can support regional development and attract investment.
The education department will release detailed timelines and admission procedures once the campuses are ready. The new polytechnics are part of a broader strategy to strengthen technical education across Meghalaya.
