The Meghalaya government announced plans to reinforce security at the border village of Langpih and to raise the ongoing census disagreement with Assam at the next inter‑state meeting.
Meghalaya officials said the state will step up security arrangements in Langpih, a border hamlet that has repeatedly been a flashpoint in the long‑standing territorial dispute with Assam.
The decision was taken as the government prepares to bring the unresolved census row with Assam before the forthcoming inter‑state coordination forum.
Additional police personnel, surveillance equipment and rapid‑response teams are expected to be deployed to the area to deter any escalation.
State representatives indicated that the census issue, which concerns the enumeration of residents in the contested zone, will be a key agenda item in the next meeting with Assam officials, reflecting broader concerns over resource allocation and demographic data.
