State officials in Meghalaya examined the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission and highlighted inconsistencies in the reported data.
During a recent review meeting in Meghalaya, senior officials of the state government assessed the status of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the central scheme aimed at providing piped water to rural households. The review focused on the extent of coverage achieved so far and the quality of data submitted by implementing agencies.
The officials noted that while several villages have reported connection of households, the documentation contains gaps and discrepancies that make it difficult to verify actual progress. In particular, inconsistencies were found in the number of beneficiaries recorded versus the on‑ground verification reports.
To address these shortcomings, the state has instructed district teams to conduct a fresh field verification and to update the central database with accurate figures. The review also called for tighter coordination between the state water department and the central mission unit to ensure that future reporting adheres to standardized protocols.
The central Ministry of Jal Shakti has been informed of the findings and has pledged technical support to strengthen monitoring mechanisms across the state.
