The state of Meghalaya has put forward a plan to establish an AI research centre worth ₹20 crore, pending approval from the national IndiaAI Mission.
The Meghalaya government has submitted a proposal to set up an artificial intelligence research centre with an estimated cost of ₹20 crore. The plan, aimed at boosting AI research and skill development in the state, is awaiting clearance from the IndiaAI Mission, the national body overseeing AI initiatives.
The proposed centre would focus on developing AI solutions for local industries, healthcare, and agriculture, and would also offer training programmes for students and professionals. Officials say the facility could attract talent from across the country and help Meghalaya become a hub for technology innovation.
Approval from the IndiaAI Mission is required before any funding can be released. The state government has expressed confidence that the project aligns with the national AI strategy and expects a positive response soon.
