The Meghalaya government has pledged to take action after the Meghalaya Democratic Congress alleged that Assam officials were conducting a forced census of villagers along the West Khasi Hills border.
The Meghalaya government has announced it will take action after the Meghalaya Democratic Congress (MDC) accused Assam officials of conducting a forced census of villagers along the West Khasi Hills (WKH) border.
The MDC claims that officers from the Assam state administration entered WKH villages and collected demographic data without proper consent, a move that villagers say violates their rights and disrupts local governance.
In response, the Meghalaya Chief Minister's office released a statement saying it would investigate the allegations, engage with Assam authorities, and ensure that any census activity complies with national and state regulations.
