Four Meghalaya Police officers have been suspended after an investigation found evidence of illegal toll collection from trucks passing through the state.
The Meghalaya Police Department announced the suspension of four officers on Tuesday following an internal probe that uncovered irregularities in toll collection from commercial trucks.
According to the police, the officers allegedly collected fees from truck drivers without proper authorization, diverting the money to personal accounts.
The suspended officers are currently on leave pending further investigation, and the department has said it will cooperate with the state anti‑corruption bureau.
Police officials have urged truck operators to report any suspicious toll practices and assured that strict action will be taken against any misconduct.
