Meghalaya police nab two suspects with heroin worth Rs 7 lakh in Shillong

Meghalaya police announced that two persons were arrested in Shillong after a heroin cache estimated at Rs 7 lakh was recovered. The operation was carried out by the state’s anti‑narcotics unit, which intercepted the drugs during a routine check.
The seized heroin, weighing several kilograms, has been assessed at a market value of approximately Rs 7 lakh, underscoring the scale of the illicit network operating in the region. Authorities have not disclosed the exact method of procurement but confirmed that the haul represents a significant bust for local law enforcement.
Both arrestees are being held for further questioning, and the police have indicated that investigations will continue to identify any additional links to larger drug‑trafficking syndicates. The case is expected to be forwarded to the district court for formal charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
