Meghalaya MP James Sangma has been named a special invitee to the government panel reviewing the proposed FCRA Amendment Bill.

James Sangma, the Lok Sabha member from Meghalaya, has been nominated as a special invitee to the panel tasked with examining the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill. The panel, constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, will scrutinise the proposed changes that aim to tighten the rules governing foreign funding to NGOs and other entities.

The amendment seeks to introduce stricter compliance requirements, enhance transparency, and expand the scope of organisations that must register under the FCRA. Stakeholders, including civil society groups and legal experts, have been invited to provide inputs before the bill is presented to Parliament.

Sangma's inclusion signals an effort to incorporate perspectives from the Northeast region into the deliberations. His experience in parliamentary affairs and regional development is expected to contribute to a balanced assessment of the bill's impact.

The panel is scheduled to submit its recommendations within the next few weeks, after which the government will decide on the next steps for the legislation.
