The state of Meghalaya organized a mega karate championship, the first of its kind in 30 years, drawing participants from across the region.
Meghalaya's sports authorities launched a large‑scale karate championship, marking the first event of this magnitude in the state for three decades. The tournament was staged at a major venue in the capital, bringing together karatekas from several districts and neighboring states.
Organisers highlighted the competition as a milestone for martial‑arts development in the North‑East, noting that the event was backed by the state sports department and local karate federations. While exact registration figures were not disclosed, the championship featured a broad mix of senior and junior athletes competing across multiple weight categories.
The successful execution of the championship is expected to boost grassroots participation and may pave the way for Meghalaya to host more national‑level martial‑arts events in the future, officials said.
