The Meghalaya state government convened a second round of consultations on the proposed ropeway at Shillong Peak, confirming that the project will not jeopardize local water sources.

The Meghalaya government organized a second consultation meeting to discuss the planned ropeway linking the city to Shillong Peak. Officials from the tourism department, environmental agencies and local stakeholders gathered to review project details and address public concerns.
During the session, authorities emphasized that comprehensive studies have shown the ropeway will not threaten the region's water sources. They cited existing data on groundwater and surface water quality, asserting that the construction and operation phases are designed to protect these resources.
The consultation is part of a broader effort to move the ropeway proposal forward while ensuring environmental safeguards. Participants were invited to submit further observations before the final approval stage, which the state aims to complete later this year.
