The state government’s recent review of the Jal Jeevan Mission identified 322 villages that require intensified interventions to meet drinking‑water targets.

Meghalaya’s administration has completed a systematic assessment of the Jal Jeevan Mission’s implementation across the state. The review, conducted by the Water Resources Department, highlighted that while many habitations have achieved functional tap connections, a sizeable number still lag behind the mission’s goal of providing safe drinking water to every rural household.

The report pinpoints 322 villages that need focused attention to bridge gaps in infrastructure, water source development, and community participation. Officials said these villages will be prioritized in the next phase of funding allocations and technical support to accelerate the completion of piped water schemes.

State officials have pledged to coordinate with central agencies, local panchayats, and NGOs to ensure that the identified villages receive the necessary resources and monitoring. The move aims to keep Meghalaya on track with the national timeline for the Jal Jeevan Mission, which targets universal rural water coverage by 2024.
