Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the state will allocate Rs 25 crore to build all‑weather roads for Domkyrkoh village and eight other settlements in the Rambrai area, which have had no road since Meghalaya attained statehood.
Domkyrkoh, a remote village in the Rambrai block of Meghalaya, has been without a motorable road since the state was created in 1972. In a press briefing, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong announced a fresh allocation of Rs 25 crore to construct all‑weather roads for Domkyrkoh and eight to nine other nearby villages that have similarly lacked connectivity.
The funding, approved by the state government, will be used to lay concrete or bitumen surfaces, build bridges where required and provide drainage to ensure year‑round access. Officials said the project aims to link these settlements with the nearest market towns, improving residents' access to health care, education and economic opportunities.
Local authorities expect the work to begin within the next two months, with completion targeted for late 2027. The deputy chief minister emphasized that the road network is a priority for the administration, citing its role in reducing isolation and fostering inclusive development across Meghalaya's hilly terrain.
Community leaders welcomed the announcement, noting that decades of limited mobility have hampered growth and emergency response in the area. The state will monitor progress through regular inspections and will release periodic updates on expenditure and milestones.
The Rs 25 crore allocation reflects the government's broader commitment to infrastructure development in the Northeast, aligning with central schemes aimed at improving rural connectivity across India.
