The Chief Minister of Meghalaya handed out cheques to vendors moved to new vending areas and announced plans for music and lighting installations at those sites.

Shillong, Meghalaya – In a ceremony held today, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya presented cheques to street vendors who have been relocated to newly designated vending zones. The payment is intended to compensate the traders for the costs incurred during the move and to support the set‑up of their stalls.

The government also unveiled plans to enhance the ambience of the new zones by installing sound systems and decorative lighting. Officials said the upgrades aim to attract more footfall, improve safety, and create a vibrant marketplace environment for both sellers and shoppers.

State authorities emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader effort to regularize informal commerce while ensuring that vendors operate in organized, well‑maintained spaces. The CM urged the traders to cooperate with municipal officials to maintain cleanliness and order in the upgraded areas.
