Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of Meghalaya attended the Living Heritage Arts and Craft Village Festival in Shillong, underscoring the state's cultural showcase.

Meghalaya's chief minister, Conrad Sangma, arrived at the Living Heritage Arts and Craft Village Festival in Shillong, joining a gathering of artisans, cultural officials and local dignitaries. The event, staged in the capital city, provides a platform for traditional craftsmen to display hand‑loomed textiles, bamboo work, pottery and other indigenous products.

During his visit, Sangma highlighted the role of cultural festivals in sustaining Meghalaya's rich heritage and generating livelihood opportunities for rural artisans. He praised the organizers for preserving age‑old techniques while encouraging younger generations to take up the crafts.

The chief minister also announced a state‑level initiative to extend financial assistance and skill‑training programs to craft clusters that participate in the festival, aiming to boost market access for their creations.

The festival, organized by the Meghalaya Department of Culture, continues through the weekend, featuring live demonstrations, exhibitions and a marketplace that attracts visitors from across the Northeast region.
