The Meghalaya government plans to implement excise reforms that are expected to generate an additional Rs 150 crore in revenue, the chief minister said.

Meghalaya's chief minister announced today that the state will roll out a series of excise reforms aimed at bolstering its fiscal resources.
The reforms are projected to generate roughly Rs 150 crore (about $18 million) in extra revenue over the next financial year. Measures include revising tax rates on alcohol and other excisable goods, tightening licensing procedures and enhancing compliance monitoring.
The additional funds are earmarked for development projects and to narrow the state's fiscal deficit. Officials also said the steps will curb illegal production and sales, improving public health and safety.
Implementation timelines were not detailed, but the government indicated a phased rollout beginning next quarter.
