The Meghalaya state cabinet decided to discontinue the interview process for Group‑C non‑technical vacancies and approved a standard operating procedure for District Sub‑Collectors.

The council of ministers in Shillong announced on Thursday that the scheduled interviews for Group‑C non‑technical posts across the state will no longer be conducted. The decision, taken during a cabinet meeting, aims to reassess the recruitment methodology and address pending administrative concerns.

In the same session, the cabinet approved a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) governing the functions and appointment process of District Sub‑Collectors (DSCs). The SOP outlines eligibility criteria, selection stages and the roles of the DSCs in district administration.

State officials said the move is intended to streamline the hiring process and ensure transparency while the new SOP will provide a clear framework for future DSC appointments. No further details on timelines for reopening the recruitment drive were disclosed.

The opposition parties have been urged to respect the cabinet’s decision, and the public service commission will be tasked with implementing the revised procedures.
