The Meghalaya state cabinet has approved the formation of an Integrated Transport Society along with a dedicated Civil Aviation Wing to coordinate transport services and boost air connectivity in the state.

The Meghalaya cabinet, convened in Shillong, gave its formal approval for two new bodies – an Integrated Transport Society and a Civil Aviation Wing. The decision is aimed at consolidating the state's fragmented transport infrastructure under a single coordinating agency.

The Integrated Transport Society will bring together road, rail and water transport authorities to streamline planning, budgeting and service delivery. Officials said the move is expected to reduce duplication, improve passenger experience and attract private investment.

Separately, the newly created Civil Aviation Wing will focus on expanding air links, upgrading existing airports and exploring new regional airstrips. The wing is tasked with preparing a comprehensive aviation policy to enhance connectivity with major Indian metros and neighboring countries.

Cabinet members emphasized that both entities will operate under the oversight of the state government, with regular reporting to ensure accountability and alignment with Meghalaya's broader development goals.
