A delegation of journalists from Meghalaya and Sikkim visited the Indian Navy's INS Sunayana, observing its hydrographic survey and related naval activities.
A mixed team of reporters from the northeastern states of Meghalaya and Sikkim was given a guided tour of INS Sunayana, a hydrographic survey vessel of the Indian Navy. The journalists were escorted aboard by naval officers who explained the ship's role in charting coastal waters and supporting maritime safety.
During the visit, the media crew observed the ship's state‑of‑the‑art sonar equipment, data‑processing labs, and the crew's routine procedures for collecting oceanographic data. The briefing highlighted how such surveys aid navigation, fisheries management and disaster preparedness along India's coastline.
The tour, organized by the Navy's public relations wing, aimed to enhance transparency and foster better understanding of defence‑related scientific work among regional media. Participants noted the experience as a valuable insight into the Navy's non‑combat contributions to national development.
The journalists plan to publish detailed reports in their respective state outlets, shedding light on the strategic importance of hydrographic missions and the Navy's outreach efforts.
