Police in Mathura have identified a surge in online scams originating from its villages, with 177 cases logged over the past year. The crackdown led to 312 arrests, many of whom were involved in phishing and fraudulent transactions. Authorities say the trend mirrors the notorious Jamtara scam that first surfaced in Jharkhand. The investigation highlighted that local youths, often lacking formal employment, were recruited into these schemes. The police are now working with cybercrime units across Uttar Pradesh to prevent further proliferation.
