The state government of Manipur has delayed the scheduled census training as protests against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) intensify across the region.

Manipur's administration announced a deferment of the upcoming census training program, citing a surge in public demonstrations against the National Register of Citizens. Officials said the training, originally slated for early June, will be rescheduled once the law and order situation stabilises.

The decision follows weeks of rallies and blockades in several districts, where local groups have demanded clarification on the NRC's impact on tribal communities. Police have deployed additional forces to contain the protests, but tensions remain high.

State officials warned that any further delay could affect the nationwide census timeline, which the central government aims to complete before the next electoral cycle. They assured that the training will resume once security assurances are in place.

The central Ministry of Home Affairs has been monitoring the situation and is in contact with Manipur's chief minister to coordinate a safe restart of census activities.
