Security forces in Manipur’s Thoubal district arrested a suspected member of the KCP (PWG) alleged to be involved in extortion activities in Lilong.

Security personnel operating in Thoubal district of Manipur detained an individual identified as a cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) in the town of Lilong. The suspect is alleged to have been involved in extortion schemes targeting local businesses and residents.

The KCP (PWG) is a banned insurgent outfit that has been linked to various criminal activities across the state. Authorities have been monitoring its network for months, focusing on revenue‑generating operations such as forced levies.

Police officials said the arrest was part of a broader crackdown on insurgent‑linked extortion in the region. The detainee will be presented before a magistrate for further legal proceedings.

The operation underscores the state's continued effort to dismantle illegal financing channels used by militant groups, aiming to restore safety and economic stability for the people of Lilong and surrounding areas.
