The Manipur government has released a cash assistance of Rs 5.88 crore to support more than 58,000 internally displaced persons affected by the recent ethnic clashes, just before the Diwali and Ningal‑Chakouba festivals.
Manipur’s state administration announced the release of Rs 5.88 crore to provide immediate relief to over 58,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were forced to leave their homes during the recent ethnic unrest in the state. The allocation is part of a targeted relief package aimed at addressing basic needs such as food, shelter and medical care for the conflict‑hit families.
The funds are being channelled through district collectors and local welfare offices, with disbursement scheduled to begin this week so that beneficiaries can receive assistance before the upcoming Diwali and Ningol‑Chakouba celebrations. Officials said the timing is intended to enable displaced families to observe the festivals with some financial security.
State officials emphasized that the measure is a temporary relief effort and that longer‑term rehabilitation plans are under discussion with central agencies. They also urged community leaders to cooperate in ensuring that the aid reaches the most vulnerable households without delay.
