Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla inspected the ongoing work on the India‑Myanmar border fence in Manipur, noting the pace of construction and security implications.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla visited the India‑Myanmar border fence project to assess the current stage of construction. The review, conducted in the state's border districts, focused on the sections that have been completed and those awaiting further work.
He observed that the fencing, a key component of the government's border‑security strategy, is progressing steadily despite challenging terrain. The governor highlighted the importance of the barrier in curbing illegal crossings, smuggling and other cross‑border activities.
Bhalla urged the implementing agencies to maintain the momentum and ensure that quality standards are met. He also called for close coordination between state officials and central security forces to expedite the remaining phases of the project.
The review comes as part of a broader effort by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to secure India's northeastern frontiers, with the fence expected to span several hundred kilometres along the international boundary.
