Manipur's Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen has announced a skill-first agenda aimed at empowering youth in Kangpokpi district. The initiative focuses on enhancing employability through targeted skill development programs.
The announcement was made during a recent outreach programme in Kangpokpi, where Deputy CM Kipgen interacted with local youth and community leaders. She emphasized that equipping young people with relevant skills is essential for their future growth and the region's development.
The skill‑first agenda envisages collaboration with vocational training institutes and industry partners to design courses that match market demands. It aims to provide practical training that can lead to wage employment or self‑employment opportunities for the youth.
Officials said the initiative will be rolled out in phases, beginning with pilot projects in select blocks of Kangpokpi district. Feedback from participants will be used to refine the curriculum and expand the scope.
Local residents have welcomed the move, expressing hope that focused skill development will reduce unemployment and encourage entrepreneurship among the younger generation in the hill district.
