The Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur emphasized that protecting water bodies and forest cover must take precedence over ongoing land disputes, urging authorities to prioritize environmental conservation.

Manipur's Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the critical need to preserve the state's water resources and forest ecosystems, stating that these natural assets are being jeopardised by protracted land disputes. He urged the state administration and local communities to place environmental protection above competing claims over land ownership.

In his remarks, the deputy chief minister warned that unchecked disputes could lead to degradation of rivers, streams and forest cover, threatening both biodiversity and the livelihoods of people dependent on these resources. He called for a collaborative approach involving government agencies, tribal councils and civil society to resolve conflicts while safeguarding the environment.

The official also appealed for stricter enforcement of existing forest and water protection laws, and for the integration of ecological considerations into any land settlement processes. He assured that the state will monitor compliance and take corrective action where necessary.

Stakeholders, including local leaders and environmental groups, have welcomed the call, noting that Manipur's hilly terrain and abundant waterways are vital to the region's ecological balance and economic well‑being.
