Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh Calls for Public Help to Preserve Nambul River

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh addressed the public, emphasizing the urgent need to protect the Nambul River from pollution and ecological degradation. He highlighted that the river is a vital water source for agriculture, drinking, and local livelihoods, and its health directly impacts the well‑being of communities across the state.
The CM appealed for collective action, urging households, industries, and local authorities to adopt proper waste disposal practices, avoid dumping solid waste into the waterway, and support regular clean‑up drives. He also called for the enforcement of existing environmental regulations to curb illegal dumping and encroachment along the riverbanks.
Officials from the Manipur State Pollution Control Board were asked to monitor water quality closely and to provide guidance on sustainable river‑bank management. The chief minister promised that the state government will allocate resources for periodic clean‑up campaigns and for awareness programmes in schools and villages.
By mobilising citizens and reinforcing regulatory oversight, Singh aims to restore the Nambul River’s ecological balance, ensuring it remains a clean and reliable resource for future generations.
