Manipur CM says Arambai Tenggol and village volunteers are not banned groups

Manipur's chief minister, N. Biren Singh, addressed recent speculation about the legal status of the Arambai Tenggol group and village volunteer networks, stating unequivocally that neither is designated as a banned organisation under Indian law. The clarification came during a press briefing held in Imphal, where the CM responded to queries from journalists about security assessments in the state.

Singh emphasized that the state government continuously monitors all armed and civilian groups, but confirmed that Arambai Tenggol, a local outfit often mentioned in security reports, has not been placed on the central government's prohibited list. He also noted that village volunteers, who assist in community policing and disaster response, operate under the supervision of district authorities and are not subject to any ban.

The statement aims to dispel rumors that could affect public confidence and the functioning of community‑based initiatives. Security agencies have not issued any new directives concerning these groups, and the CM urged citizens to rely on official notifications rather than unverified reports.
