The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, convened a meeting on Thursday to review the state’s prenatal diagnostic services.
Health officials, medical practitioners and diagnostic lab representatives attended the session to assess current protocols and identify gaps in service delivery.
Officials highlighted the importance of early detection of congenital anomalies and outlined plans to expand access to ultrasound and genetic testing in rural districts.
The CM announced a pilot program to train midwives in basic prenatal screening and a subsidy scheme for low‑cost diagnostic kits, aiming to reduce preventable birth defects and improve maternal health outcomes by 2025.
