Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated the BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week 2026 in Imphal, flagging off a citywide cyclothon to promote eco‑friendly living.
The BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week 2026 was officially launched in Imphal on Monday by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The ceremony, held at the state’s central sports complex, saw the CM unveil a banner that reads ‘Sustainable Living for a Better Future’.
Immediately following the launch, the CM flagged off a citywide cyclothon that covered a 15‑kilometre loop through the heart of Imphal. The event attracted more than 500 participants, including students, local business owners and environmental activists, all riding bicycles to raise awareness about reducing carbon emissions.
The week‑long program is part of BRICS’ broader initiative to promote sustainable development across member countries. It will feature workshops, exhibitions and community outreach activities aimed at encouraging eco‑friendly habits among citizens.
Officials said the cyclothon was designed to showcase Manipur’s commitment to green living and to inspire other Indian states to adopt similar initiatives as part of the BRICS agenda.
