On its inaugural foundation day, the Manipur Electricity Regulatory Commission (MnERC) was inaugurated with the Manipur Chief Minister stressing electricity's indispensability for economic growth.
The Manipur Electricity Regulatory Commission (MnERC) celebrated its first foundation day on Thursday in Imphal, with the state’s Chief Minister attending the ceremony. The event marked the formal launch of the regulatory body that will oversee the state’s power sector.
During the proceedings, the Chief Minister underscored that electricity is essential for economic progress and expressed confidence that MnERC would play a pivotal role in ensuring reliable and affordable power for the state. He highlighted the commission’s mandate to regulate tariffs, promote renewable energy, and safeguard consumer interests.
MnERC’s creation follows the government’s commitment to modernise the electricity sector, improve distribution efficiency, and attract investment in power infrastructure. The commission will also work to streamline approvals for new projects and enhance transparency in the sector.
The foundation day ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Power, representatives from the state’s electricity board, and industry stakeholders, all of whom welcomed the establishment of a dedicated regulatory body to drive Manipur’s energy goals.
