Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has declared unrestricted travel on National Highways 2 and 37, aiming to promote inter‑community connectivity across the state.
National Highways 2 and 37, which traverse the eastern part of Manipur, have been earmarked for a new policy of free movement announced by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday. The decision comes as part of the state government’s effort to enhance connectivity and reduce travel costs for residents of diverse communities.
Under the new directive, vehicles of all categories will be allowed to use NH‑2 and NH‑37 without paying tolls or other fees. The announcement was made during a press briefing at the state capital, Imphal, where the CM highlighted the economic and social benefits of the initiative.
Experts suggest that eliminating tolls on these major corridors could boost trade, tourism and inter‑community interaction, especially in remote areas that rely heavily on these highways for daily commutes and market access.
