The train, part of the country’s flagship semi‑high speed network, is expected to cut the journey time between the two cities to just over three hours.
The new service will operate from Mangaluru Junction to Madgaon Junction, providing passengers with modern amenities such as onboard Wi‑Fi, ergonomic seating and advanced safety features. The launch is part of a broader push to improve connectivity along the western coast.
Officials say the train will run twice a week initially, with plans to increase frequency as demand grows. The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express is anticipated to boost tourism and trade between the two states.
