Police in Mandsaur have uncovered a fraud ring that used a matrimonial website to collect money for fake gifts and customs clearance, then transferred the proceeds to Pakistan through cryptocurrency.
Mandsaur police, in coordination with central investigative agencies, have opened a case against a group that allegedly exploited a popular matrimonial website to defraud victims. The suspects approached individuals promising expensive wedding gifts and assistance with customs clearance, requesting upfront payments.
The collected sums were not used for the promised services. Instead, the gang allegedly converted the cash into cryptocurrency and routed the digital assets to accounts linked to Pakistan, according to preliminary findings.
Forensic teams are now tracing the blockchain transactions to identify the full flow of funds and the overseas beneficiaries. The investigation also focuses on the digital network used to communicate with victims and to manage the crypto wallets.
Authorities have issued a public alert urging people to verify the authenticity of any such offers on matrimonial platforms and to avoid making payments without official documentation, especially when foreign transfers are involved.
