The Mandakini River overflowed in Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh, causing the worst flooding in twenty years. Rescue teams have saved close to a thousand residents so far.

Heavy rains caused the Mandakini River to burst its banks in Chitrakoot district of Madhya Pradesh, producing the most severe flood the region has seen in two decades. Water levels rose rapidly, submerging low‑lying villages and cutting off road access.

State and local rescue teams, supported by volunteers, launched a large‑scale evacuation as the water surged. By the latest count, nearly 1,000 people have been rescued from inundated homes and stranded locations.

Authorities continue to monitor the river’s flow while assessing damage to infrastructure, including roads, electricity lines and public utilities. Relief efforts are underway to provide temporary shelter and essential supplies to those displaced by the flood.
