The Mandakini River surged past its 23‑year high, flooding Chamra and surrounding areas, washing away a bridge and submerging shops and temples.

On Tuesday, the Mandakini River in Chamra, Uttarakhand, broke a 23‑year high, sending a torrent of water through the town and its outskirts. The sudden surge washed away a key bridge, isolating residents and cutting off access to nearby villages. Shops and temples along the riverbank were submerged, and several structures collapsed under the force of the flood. Rescue teams, including the Uttarakhand Disaster Response Force, used helicopters and boats to evacuate people trapped in low‑lying areas. Local authorities have deployed additional resources and are monitoring the river’s flow as the weather remains unsettled.
