A man who breached the enclosure of the endangered Amur tiger Altai at Yorkshire Wildlife Park was mauled to death, officials said.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park in South Yorkshire confirmed that a man entered the enclosure of Altai, an endangered Amur tiger, on Sunday and was fatally attacked. The incident was captured on camera, showing the intruder climbing over the barrier before the tiger lunged.
Park officials said the tiger is "safe and well" and will not be put down, emphasizing that the animal acted instinctively when threatened. They added that the enclosure’s safety measures are being reviewed to prevent future breaches.
Police have opened an investigation into how the man accessed the area, and the park is cooperating with local authorities. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
