Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the residence of a Trinamool Congress worker who died while in police custody, sparking protests from local residents who raised slogans and damaged her vehicle.

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at the home of a Trinamool Congress worker who had died while in police custody, according to reports from The Hindu. The visit was intended to pay respects and discuss the circumstances surrounding the death.

The worker, whose name has not been disclosed, was reportedly held by police in a local station before his death. The incident has drawn criticism from opposition parties and civil society groups, who claim the death was a result of custodial abuse.

When Mamata entered the residence, a group of local residents gathered outside, chanting slogans against her and the state government. The protest escalated when some demonstrators struck the vehicle in which the chief minister was traveling, damaging the bumper and causing a brief traffic disruption.

Mamata Banerjee’s office later issued a statement condemning the vandalism and reaffirming her commitment to investigating the death. Police have been called to the scene to secure the area and investigate the incident further.
