The Maharashtra state government has written to the Election Commission demanding that Form 6 be amended, after several voters were struck off in the Supplementary Information Report and asked to affirm they are new voters.

In a formal letter to the Election Commission of India, the Maharashtra state government has highlighted discrepancies in Form 6, the official record used for voter registration. The state’s grievance centres on the removal of a number of individuals from the electoral roll in the Supplementary Information Report (SIR). Those affected were subsequently instructed to swear an oath that they are first‑time voters, a step that is not mandated by electoral law. Maharashtra has asked the commission to restore the deleted entries, correct the Form 6 entries and issue clear procedural guidelines to avoid similar issues in future elections. The request comes as the state prepares for upcoming assembly polls, where an accurate voter list is essential for a credible electoral process. The Election Commission has not yet issued a public response, but officials say the matter will be examined promptly.
