The Maharashtra State Election Commission has removed 20.6 million voters from the draft electoral roll and flagged an additional 12.2 million for further scrutiny as part of the verification process ahead of upcoming elections.

The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SIR) has announced that it has excluded 20.6 million electors from the draft electoral roll released for the upcoming elections. The exclusions were based on findings of duplicate entries, invalid addresses and other discrepancies identified during the verification process. In addition, 12.2 million electors are currently under scrutiny, with the commission reviewing their status before finalizing the roll. The decision is part of the commission’s effort to ensure a clean and accurate voter list for the forthcoming polls.
