Maharashtra and Australia’s New South Wales have inked agreements aimed at expanding bilateral trade, attracting investment and enhancing skill exchange between the two regions.
The governments of Maharashtra and New South Wales concluded a series of memoranda of understanding in a ceremony held earlier this week. The accords focus on widening market access for goods and services, encouraging joint ventures, and creating pathways for professional and technical skill sharing.
Officials said the partnership will leverage Maharashtra’s manufacturing base and New South Wales’ expertise in sectors such as renewable energy, information technology and education. Both sides expect the framework to channel greater Australian investment into the Indian state while opening Australian markets to Maharashtra’s exports.
The agreements also include provisions for collaborative research, student exchanges and training programmes designed to address skill gaps in emerging industries. Stakeholders from industry chambers and trade bodies were invited to provide input on implementation mechanisms.
While the details of financial commitments remain under discussion, the signing signals a strategic move to deepen economic ties between India’s western region and Australia’s most populous state, aligning with broader Indo‑Australian trade objectives.
